Rebecca’s new single captures smooth sounds of summer

The new single from London singer-songwriter Rebecca Poole is released on Friday (20 June 2025) – a day before midsummer’s day.

Appropriately, it’s called Summer Days [not to be confused with the Emily Sanders classic of the same name], and it captures the mood of the season from the start – “Don’t you love those hazy summer days? Don’t you love those lazy summer ways?

Before you even get to the song, the cover art sets the tone – Rebecca relaxing in the sunny countryside, alongside a classic Triumph Stag sportcar.

It’s a fitting cover, because driving helped inspire the song. Rebecca explained: “Songs often come to me when I’m driving. It was one of those perfect summer days, brilliant sunshine, blue skies, driving with the roof down, when the melody and lyric just came out and I couldn’t stop singing it.

“I remember having to pull over and record it into my phone. I got the band into the Arundel studios, with the masterful pianist and producer Mark Edwards. We were joined by Oz Dechaine on bass and Darren Beckett on drums and more magic was added later, including Stuart Henderson on trumpet.

“It was important to me that this song encapsulated that ‘summer feeling’. As the lyric says, it can’t last forever but now the song can!

It’s a wonderful smooth, jazz-influenced pop song, which will be one of my summer anthems for 2025.

You may well have come across Rebecca’s super sultry vocals before. She has supported Jools Holland on tour, and shared the stage with the likes of Jamie Cullum, Lana Del Rey and Simply Red.

She also appeared in the hit Netflix series The Crown, singing Can’t Take My Eyes Off You, and her latest album Dreamers Ball has won fans at BBC radio and my favourite station, Jazz FM.

As I mentioned, Summer Days shares its title with the timeless sunshine hit by one of my all-time favourite singer-songwriters Emily Sanders. You can enjoy Emily’s Summer Days here.
